Woodman Builders does restorations, remodels, additions, but we specialize in custom homes. Woodman Builders does it all. We let our quality speak for itself. If you want to build a home from the ground up, you come to Woodman Builders. But one of our true specialties is historic restoration. Here in Georgetown, when someone brings us an older home they want restored, our first step is always the same: we evaluate the structural integrity of the foundation. Everything depends on a sound structure. And if a homeowner isn’t sure what they’re looking at, we can guide them through that process and make sure it’s done right. From there, our goal is to preserve the historical character of the home. We work hard to keep the restoration true to the original architecture and the story behind the house. Whenever possible, we reuse original elements — the newels, the dormers, the posts, and any other components we carefully remove. If it came off the house, we try to put it back on the house. Many of these older homes have stunning hardwood floors, beautiful wall details, and high ceilings that you simply don’t see anymore. They deserve to be protected. We also do extensive research. We study old photographs and historical records to ensure the restoration stays accurate to the home’s era. The Architectural Review Board (ARB) in Georgetown is part of the process as well, helping ensure that everything added back to the home is appropriate and historically correct. Restoring a historic home often involves far more work — and more challenges — than building a new one. But the reward is tremendous.
